The reassuring sight of police officers on horseback is evident across the county as mounted patrols support
the Constabulary's commitment to neighbourhood policing.
The 20 horses of the Lancashire Constabulary - ranging in age from four to 19 years - are a frequent sight
at football grounds throughout Lancashire where they routinely patrol during the football season.
The horses are trained to control large crowds during public order situations, with each horse wearing its
own "suit of armour" including head shields and shin pads for protection.
As they carry out high visibility patrols on the streets of Lancashire they are always keen to talk to members
of the public and listen to their concerns. They are also able to stop and search offenders and make arrests if necessary.
